And her awareness was filled with strange symbols, which she knew she should recognize but couldn't quite place, and then the symbols consumed her and there was only confusion.
- Roger Williams, "The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect"
No one is sure how it happened, or why; all the Playerbase know is that your character has woken up as their avatar - or an appropriate avatar - on Mundus, along with the other half-million users. All of the Avatars are at least a little apt; but some are way different than you're used to.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please enjoy your stay.
THE RULES:
1: Your character is now their Another World Online: Mundane Fantasy Historia character. They can either be an AU who lived on the West Coast of the Americas and played on Chimera Server, or taken whole cloth from canon, with or without having played AWO:MFH.
2: This means they'reboring Human, TROGDOR Koboldt, catgirl furry bait Ubastim, ninetailed furry weeabait Vulpecians, flying poptatoes Pixies, or THE CRYSTAL GEMS Aethyr. They're also locked into normal class and level progression. For more details, see here.
3: If you die, you wake up either at the beginning of the dungeon you were raiding or in the town's Cathedral, shy some Argent and experience points with no real harm done except the irritation factor.
4: The NPC's are quite remarkable sapient AI, and effectively real people.
5: MMO physics and logic apply.
6: We apologize for the inconvenience, please enjoy your stay.
THE PROMPTS:
1: Take Me To Church. You've just woken up in the nearest inn bed or Cathedral as your character, along with a bunch of other people. Is this no time to panic, or the PERFECT time to panic?
2: What The Hap. Just outside in the town square the guild Dungeon Crawling And Chill are explaining the situation as patiently as they can, trying to keep the peace. This isn't their fault, so don't get too testy with them; besides, they're doing her best to help you - and the City Guard is keeping a close watch.
3: The Bazaar. The NPC's - they prefer "Mundanes" -are really rather sophisticated AI, and aren't happy about the situation either, but they're doing the best with what they've got. Among other things, there are adventurers with Argent in their pockets milling around; if this doesn't call for an improptu market and festival day, I don't know what does.
4: Exploring your Class and Kith. It's not all bad living in the database. Sure, you're locked into your class and level progression, but on the other hand, this gives you access to all your abilities from the game. Even at the more mundane end with Warriors, Rangers and Exorcists, this gives you phenomenalstrength Vigor, Agility, and Stamina; how much cooler is it to be a Wizard, or a Psychic, or a Cleric, or a magitek combat Tinker? Although, this might be a significant downgrade from what you're used to, or at least a totally different powerset...
5: Raiding. Fuck it, you're effectively immortal and in the middle of an MMO. Let's have a raid. I hear that the Dragonspine Mountain has a battle with Khalderon Ignivorax, a dragon the size of a small apartment building; or hey, the Ranate of Kushan has this problem with the Baron Ahrimane Ravana and his tiger-headed warlock cultist thugs. Doesn't that sound like awesome fun?
6: Crafting. Or maybe you're in town brushing up on your crafting skills. Anyone without an actual ingame cooking skill can burn water, but for those who do have it, you're now capable of making Gordon Ramsey weep tears of joy. Or hey, blacksmithing is fun. And tinkering, and alchemy. Why not?
7: Delving Into Secrets. Maybe you smell something rotten in the state of Viacruz, and don't believe a word that your new AI overlords are saying. Maybe you want to help them get you and everyone else in Chimera Server back into your original, fleshy bodies. Maybe you just want to understand what's going on and how the world works. In any case, you're investigating everything you can about what the AI call "The Crash" in hushed, sorrowful tones. How did you get here, and why? Are the conspiracy theories that everyone is dead true? What about the rumored Glitch Sargasso, where everything has gone missingno? Is there any hope of getting back? Any point to it?
8: The Forums. An enterprising young Wizard with levels in Scribe has created a network, of a sort: the Player Forum, which is - less than a month in - now jam fucking packed with memes and injokes (such as the SMT-ass alien titan Io, pictured in the icon, and it's alleged habit of breaking into a raid to ask ART THOU WINNING, MY CHILDREN?), but with occasional philosophical debate, pining for (and discussion of the many flavors of) home, and even good advice once in a blue moon.
WILDCARD: Or do what you like, cause a player is free. (You may or may not be a pirate.)
We apologize for the inconvenience, please enjoy your stay in Mundus.
